Miguel Milanes

Miguel joined Allegany Franciscan Ministries, a Catholic grantmaker, in 2003; he directs the organization’s grantmaking and community engagement efforts in Miami-Dade County.

Miguel has dedicated his career to helping society’s most vulnerable citizens. Before joining Allegany Franciscan Ministries, he worked in state government serving first as director of the Miami-Dade County Health Department’s Office of HIV/AIDS and then as communications director for the Florida Department of Children and Families. In 1998, Miguel was the first person from Florida to be appointed to the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS by President Bill Clinton. Miguel also worked as special assistant to the director of the homeless program at the US Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, DC.

Miguel holds a Master’s of Public Administration from The City University of New York, and a Bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma City University. He is the former chair of the Donors’ Forum of South Florida, a regional association of grantmakers. He now serves on the Florida Philanthropic Network’s board of directors.
